Young Carer

A young carer is someone aged 25 and under who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.

This could include:

  • practical tasks, like cooking, housework and shopping
  • care, such as helping someone out of bed
  • emotional support, including talking to someone who is distressed
  • managing the family budget and collecting prescriptions, helping to give medicine
  • helping someone communicate or looking after brothers and sisters.

This is not an exhaustive list.

Young carers take on a lot of responsibility at home and this can often lead to them feeling isolated and alone; we want to help our young carers to feel seen, heard and valued.

Please talk to a member of staff at School if you believe you or someone you know may be a young carer.

We will talk through support which may be helpful for you and your family.
